Eternal
Life
The first man and woman God created was Adam and Eve. They were sinless
and lived in a beautiful garden called Eden. God had only one restriction
for them; that they not eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and
Evil. They were tempted by the devil and disobeyed God, eating the
forbidden fruit. Because of their sin they were separated from God
– forced out of the garden and into a world corrupted by sin
in which they, and their descendents, would suffer pain and toil until
they “returned to the dust of the earth.”
All
of mankind, as descendants of Adam and Eve, are born into a world
corrupted by sin and have in ourselves a sinful nature. The Bible
teaches that all have sinned and fall short of God’s standards
(Romans 3:23). It is written, “There is none who does good,
there is not even one (Romans 3:12).” We have all seen the
results of our having the sinful nature that was passed down to
us from Adam and Eve. We sin.The
Bible teaches us that the payment for sin is death (Romans 6:23).
This death includes more than just that of our mortal bodies but
we will experience death eternally in a lake of fire as payment
for our sins…unless, as the rest of Romans 6:23 says, we will
receive the free gift of God, eternal life, in Jesus Christ. The
Bible says, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all
will be made alive (1 Corinthians 15:22).” How
to receive the free gift of salvation:
Simply trust Jesus to save you.If
you believe that your sin has caused you to fall short of God’s
standard of righteousness; if you believe God’s Son, Jesus,
took the punishment you deserve when He died on the cross; if you
believe Jesus was buried but rose from the dead and ascended up
into heaven; if you believe He loves you and wants to give you eternal
life; in your own words, tell Him so. He will save you and make
you His child.
If
you have trusted Jesus to save you, you can be assured you will
be with God when your life on earth is over. Now, get yourself a
Bible and read it daily so that you can learn more about your Savior.
Pray to Him daily, He longs for a close relationship with you like
He had with Adam and Eve before the fall. Find a church that believes
the Bible and attend regularly so that you may grow in your faith
and encourage other believers. May God bless you and keep you.
